The Frontier Worlds can be a very chaotic place to live. The Barons are in command but it's the Alpha Cartels who control day-to-day living. Corruption is rampant and the Barons annihilate any who oppose them. The line between life and death is razor thin. Drevin Cantrim nearly crossed that line on a routine starliner trip aboard the Starsong Way. The vessel erupted without warning or explanation and Drevin wound up with massive injuries and head trauma. He regains consciousness in unfamiliar surroundings with little recollection of his past or the world around him. With Katrina Von Morgen, another survivor, he finds out that the destruction was not an accident and that everybody on the Starsong Way is now a target. They must scramble to stay out of the clutches of the Barons while Drevin struggles to remember who he really is. The only chance the survivors have is to reach Spur Tarc, an information broker masquerading as a radical Preacher of Righteousness. But the Barons have an unstoppable assassin and he's determined to silence any survivors, no matter the price. Avarice Dynasty Evasion is the first book in a new science fiction series from the best-selling co-author of Treasure of the Mayan King. It masterfully blends action, suspense and humor in a book that can be enjoyed by the whole family. Even those who don't normally read sci-fi can find something to like in this novel. From the Back Cover The Starsong Way, luxury passenger starliner, was on the final leg of its journey when a massive explosion tore it apart. Only a handful of survivors were pulled from the wreckage. Among them was Drevin Cantrim. He awakens with a broken body and little recollection of his past or his trip on the doomed starliner. With his shattered past scraping at his psyche he learns the explosion was no accident. Now he must scramble to recover his memory before those responsible for the destruction find him...and finish the job.

This fast-paced, futuristic thriller delivers a wild ride. Alehandro writes with humor and spins plot twists that keep you guessing. This first book in a series introduces the reader to an eclectic group of amusing characters. By the end of the book, I was immersed in their desperate cause and eager for book two in the series.Avarice Dynasty offers the same kind of action-packed, explosive entertainment that would appeal to my teenage son--but truth be told, I enjoyed this book immensely myself! This “clean read” is appropriate for young adult and adult readers alike. I’ll continue to buy books in this series and would recommend them to sci-fi fans of all ages.

Avarice Dynasty Evasion Volume 1 Dyego Alehandro 9780988547100 Books Reviews
I wish it ended better. It is part of a series but left on too much of a cliffhanger. Characters are good. Amnesia is used by poor authors but this author used it very well. It added suspense. I hope second book comes soon. Characters are good but some seem like filler. This is a clean book that all ages can read.
Recommended.
Avarice Dynasty Evasion starts with all the confusion expected from an amnesic narrator. It progressively turns into a race across the Frontier Worlds to free it from the titular dynasty of the Barons, the tyrannical overlords of that region of space.
There are enough plot twists here that saying any more would spoil it.
It's a very enjoyable book, easy to pick up and simply oozes fun. The pacing, the characters which are both lovable and hateable (in the best ways) and the detailed, well thought-out setting all take part in making this book very hard to put down once you've started.
Overall, there's very little to reproach this book.
This was a fun read, the good guys trying to stay ahead of the bad guys. Biggest problem is, white-hat Drevin doesn't remember anything. Nothing, and what he can't remember is critical. Wherever he goes, the bad guys are sure to follow as he and his compatriots try and piece it all together. Something's not right. Black-hat Frez Jankins is always right there, and killing people to get to them doesn't bother him at all. What is it Drevin can't remember?
The book was a fun science fiction book about a man and his companions, running for their lives from a very dangerous terrorist. As they flee, death and destruction chase them across the galaxy. However, there were a few problems with the story that still bother me, and I was not satisfied by the ending (and it's clear that this is only the first book of a series of unknown length). In spite of my issues, I did enjoy it. It's not the kind of book that I usually read, but if you like space opera with lots of explosions and daring escapes, this could be a good choice.
This was a fun read with many interesting characters and settings, and non-stop action. I was always a little relieved on behalf of these poor, hunted people when it took days to travel between one galaxy and the next - at least they got a little rest! The main character, Drevin, is nicely fleshed out. Over time, and with expert pacing, we learn who he is (as he learns it himself), including his near and distant past. What we don’t really learn is the middle of his life, so of course neither has he by the end of the book. This made the plot twist at the end a little difficult to understand and accept. I wanted more pieces to line up so that I’d be thinking “Why didn’t I see that?” but my reaction was more “Really? How does that work?” I’m assuming this will be explained in more detail in the next book, so I’m looking forward to that. My only other complaint is that Drevin’s side-kick, Katrina, is not as well fleshed out. She and Drevin were usually at odds with each other, and since he didn't get to know her very well, neither does the reader. Still, all in all a very solid, enjoyable read.
It's a little difficult to classify "Avarice Dynasty Evasion."
On one hand, it's science fiction on an operatic scale. There is death and destruction on almost every page - and when I say death and destruction I mean it comes at the reader in tsunami waves. Whole cities are destroyed and their populations killed almost casually; a university - and everyone attending or working at it - is obliterated. Starships and space stations are attacked with enormous loss of life and innocent bystanders are wiped out almost as an afterthought.
On the other hand, this is a spy story pitting a wealthy man who has lost his memory in an explosion against an implacable killer hunting him down. Drevin Cantrim barely survives an attack on the starship he was aboard for a secret meeting but when he awakes he cannot remember much of anything, let alone his mission. As the story moves along he gradually learns who he is and what he was supposed to do but it's not until the end of the book that he finally discovers his past.
There are a lot of things to like about this rambling tale of a man on the run. Author Dyego Alehandro writes well, for example, and his descriptions of the action sequences in "Avarice Dynasty Evasion" are nicely done. The characters he has fashioned, however, often read as though they walked off the screen of a video game. The assassin out to destroy Cantrim slaughters people by the thousands - maybe even millions - in his grim pursuit without any fear of retribution. He seems impervious to bullets, though we are never really told why. Is he part cyborg? Personally, I didn't find any of the characters all that admirable They lie shamelessly, keep secrets from friends and allies alike, and there is plenty of betrayal to go around. When all is said and done, none of them seem to be the kind of people I'd want to hang around with.
I must admit that the narrative had me scratching my head a few times because Alehandro asks the reader to make some big assumptions about the social structure of the universe his characters inhabit. There are, for example, cartels that seem to control day-to-day life but there are also Barons who, I think, somehow control the cartels - or, at least, keep them in some sort of check. As a reader, I really needed a better explanation of how the cartels came to power early in the book and how it is that no one seems to object much to the fact they routinely kill off large numbers of people while going about their business.
The plot is full of wrinkles and even comes with a "Total Recall" twist but the book ends on a cliffhanger that left me feeling a little cheated. I recognize that this is meant to be the first book in a series, however, by the author's own admission there's no timetable for carrying the saga forward.
All in all, an interesting read that's heavy on action but thin on plot.
